It all started with a permit course and an abbreviated defensive handgun class. For many years to follow, it was lots of dry practice and reading. I read anything I could get my hands on that would have drills to try, or establishing the proper mindset of situational awareness and preparedness.
Years later, I returned to the instructor who started me on my path and took a defensive shotgun class. Little did I know that three years later, I would have completed over 190 hours of firearms training including shotgun, carbine and pistol.
At that point, I decided to get some instructor credentials through the NRA and am certified to teach basic pistol, and personal protection inside the home. Not satisfied with this, I became a Certified SC CWP instructor, and shortly after that, a much more difficult certification than all the previous ones, a Rangemaster Instructor level certificate which included passing both written and shooting tests, one of which was the FBI pistol qualifier (which I had a perfect score two times in a row).

I could also tell you that I have trained under and alongside former Secret Service members, Delta Force, Green Berets, various other SF military guys, Marine snipers, SWAT cops, federal agents and sheriff’s deputies, and it would all be true; but my personal background is simply being a civilian. Our teaching perspective is from a civilian side of the coin, and that it matters what YOU can do on your own when things fall apart. Other folks will not be there to hold your hand, and it will be up to you to have put in the work to be a civilian who is competent in their preparedness.
As stated before, Competent Carry LLC is here mainly for civilians. We want you to think, and be prepared to defend yourself and the ones you love, when action is needed at that moment, but law enforcement is minutes away.
